Fetish (Makedde Vanderwall #1)
Tara Moss began modeling at fifteen and worked as a top model around the world for the years before becoming a full-time crime novelist.
Tara Moss has done something interesting: she has written an amateurish, third-rate crime novel, but not one that made me want to never read her again. This is a skill, but it's not one that can disguise the sheer sloppiness of Fetish.Makedde ("Ma-cay-de") Vanderwall is a psychology student who works as a model to pay for her tuition. Makedde comes to Sydney for work and to meet her childhood friend, only to find that she has been brutally murdered by the Stiletto Killer. From there, Makedde
Okay - first mistake was listening to the audio version, which is narrated by Tara Moss. Without wanting to be over-criticising, it was irritating to listen to. Everyone sounded the same, which was confusing, there was hardly any difference in the accents either.Second clue - my friend, who likes these kind of books, couldn't really remember the story. Bad sign.Makedde Vanderwall (love the name!) is a psychology student who works as a model to pay for her tuition. Soon after she arrives in
This was probably a 3.5 book for me. I enjoyed the story but at times I found Makedde really frustrating. There were the times when the police officer told her to stay away but she kept getting involved. It did draw me into the story in places so I am going to give the next book in the series another go.
Actual Rating: 2.5 starsMy neighbour recently found out I was a "reader" (sounds like something I need to be cured of) and handed me a book. She stated that she was not a reader, yet this was a book that she could not put down. This got me intrigued. What type of book would tempt a non-reader to read and make a non-reader read non-stop.Off home I run with book in hand and of course the first thing I do is log on to Goodreads to mark the book as Currently Reading. Oh No. That will not do. The
What a surprise Tara Moss turned out to be. When her first book hit the Australian market, Tara Moss was already a celebrity on the fashion catwalk and with any type of celebrity rumours abound, so I merely shrugged and decided that her books were not me. How wrong I was, after reading a digital ARC of her latest book Dead Man Switch I wanted to read more, but where to start? There was only one choice, at the beginning of course. Although this book was about the world of high fashion modelling,
It wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't good. There were way too many stereotypes in here to really keep my interest, and the author seemed to want to go for quantity over quality (cram more dead bodies in but don't have any type of psychological impact on the remaining characters). The reason I stopped reading Kathy Reichs and Patricia Cornwall was the astonishing number of times their lead characters found themselves in the sight of a killer - in this book, just the first in the series, she's

A serial psychopath killer is on the loose. His victims are luscious, beautiful young women with a missing pair of stiletto when found at the crime scene. Deemed as The Stiletto Killer - the hunt becomes a chase for the one and only, Mak. Mak formerly known as Makedde Vanderwall, is a Canadian student studying forensic psychology and modelling on the side. She travels to Sydney, Australia where she temporarily resides and discovers her fellow friend Cat has been murdered. While Mak is modellingTara Moss has done something interesting: she has written an amateurish, third-rate crime novel, but not one that made me want to never read her again.
